about
This song was created in the time right before we released our first album, and refined during the summer of 2020, as we braved the stress of quarantine together. It was written by Lo Gomez and took on an extremely ethereal, pop quality. He wrote the guitar, bass, drums, and synth parts that would eventually turn into the chorus of the song. Jimmy built on the guitar part from there and finished the structure. All three of us got to play synthesizer passages on a song for the first time as well, which was very fun. I (Evan) wrote the lyrics which Jimmy sang, and they centered around the nonsensical title. Most of it ended up coming to me in a dream, actually. To “make the Ruby Run”, we said, represented the action of pretending to be someone you aren’t. It fits in well with the songs in the middle of the album, which I feel all have some sort of existential substance material, rather than a story.
lyrics
Once faded, coming back to me
Inflated eccentricity
No purpose, there's nothing I can be
Unfolding the constant mystery
(Hey!)
Nonstop, now it's looking grim
Unmatched, life of pandemonium
Conflict, filling to the brim
Resolute, now I let it in
(Hey!)
Sleepless
Weakness
Sleepless
Weakness
Ruby Runin'
Sleepless
Always contemplating the life I lead and the daily deed
Weakness
Always feeling like I'm making the ruby run into the sun
It goes
Run into the sun it goes
Run into the sun it goes
Variation is overrated
Why try and change yourself? It's so complicated
All the time you've heard the stories
Wishing for the glories
Realizing now that it's so antiquated
(Hey!)
Nonstop, now it's looking grim
Unmatched, life of pandemonium
Conflict, filling to the brim
Resolute, now I let it in
(Hey!)
